I dropped my signal parts off and asked about the threads being powder-coated. He said it's nothing to worry about if your threads are are fairly wide. It may offer a bit of resistance but not much when you thread it back in.

I finally got around to ordering my pole and base from Alloy Castings out in MA. I had them paint it but the color was nothing close to matching my Crouse-Hinds 4-way color which I plan on using it with. Their safety yellow was more of an orange hue much like the signals in the Toronto area. :glare: Also I was not impressed with the quality as some paint was already nicked off and when I ran my finger along it, it easily came off. Not sure what was up with that. I should have left it unpainted. So now it's being stripped & powder-coated. Also getting the Crouse-Hinds slip fitter bottom piece (reproduction cast iron piece) powder coated along with a Crouse-Hinds finial and the top dome of the 4-way along with some crown nuts. The price: $90. I should have it in within a week to ten days. I'll post pics when all is done and put back together.

Steve, you'll be impressed with the results.
A cop pulled me over and said, "Papers..." So I replied, "Scissors! I win!" and drove off.

Not to get off topic but if it is ok for me to ask, how is Alloy Castings to buy from? and about how are their prices? I'm in the market for a base and pole for an outdoor set up I want to do and I have a price of about $200.00 for just a plain galvanized steel 8' 4.5"od pipe (including shipping). I would rather have a true signal post with a base.

You can pick up the steel conduit from your local electrical supplier. Last time I bought it the price was $80 , but I'm sure it has gone up! Its the same as the pipe that came with some of my cast iron signal bases.

Did you guys that had powdercoating done have the insides of the signal done as well as the outside? I'm trying to decide if I want the inside done but I know it will probably drive the cost up double.

Actually, not having the inside done might be more expensive. If you don't want the inside done, they might have to mask it off and that is more labor. I know the guy I use has always seemed like he didn't want to do any masking off, except for external threads.
