Good evening all! My name is Phil and I stumbled across this forum while researching a new project. I am employed full time as a Corporal at the Sheriff's Office and don't have a great deal of free time. One of my projects is a 1950s Crouse Hinds type M traffic light. It actually belongs to my dad and I "stole" it from his storage area to restore it as a surprise.
I knew nothing about this traffic signal when I loaded it into the car, but I have learned a lot on the internet. I know I have an uphill battle in fixing this up. It sat outside in the elements from 1955 when my dad got it until the early 1990's when the post it was hanging on collapsed in a tropical storm. That bent the shroud over the green signal, but the light was ok otherwise.
I have been having a time stripping the paint from the exterior of this light before I prime and paint. I also want to convert the light to a pole mount and cannot for the life of me get the hanger off the top of the red signal. I am hoping to learn some tips and tricks here for this project to make my life easier. So far, its been fun and challenging and its nice because I can work on it for half an hour and walk away.
I need to find a couple parts to fix this thing up right... hopefully the classifieds section will hold the keys to those needs :)
Phil
