Central Park two-section pedestrian signal observation #2

Postby steven1981 on Mon Jul 22, 2013 5:40 pm

This second observation was recorded in a different area of Central Park in Manhattan. The two-section pedestrian signal is controlled by an older signal controller, in which I believe was manufactured by General Electric (see picture below). You could hear the cam advancements in this video as well; however, they are less noisier than what were produced by the G.T.E. signal controller from the other video.

Like many other two-section pedestrian signals throughout Central Park, this one shows a rather simple transition from green to red. Nothing special in between, in which it acts as a "WAIT" and "WALK" pedestrian signal. Many of these were in use prior to red and green signal indications, so, despite the conversion, the sequence hasn't necessarily changed for most in Central Park.

That does sound just like a GE/Econolite type F controller in there!

The next time I have a chance I think I'll head on up to centeral park to see this for myself. Geez, I saw a single face Ruleta for sale on E-bay not to long ago. I've driven by NY city a few times and had a school trip in NY ( you'll see me as a child in a green shirt under a traffic light in a sesamy place video) but I've never really explored NY city. That'll be a fun day

It would be nice to visit these while they remain in service. I doubt they will go anywhere for quite a while.
