WARNING: Possible STOLEN ASC/3 Controllers on eBay

Postby RunsWithCrouse-Hinds on Fri Jan 11, 2013 4:03 pm

I realize that this violates the eBay policy, but I consider this an exception...

I noticed yesterday that there is an active auction on eBay, where the seller is selling 3 Econolite ASC/3 controllers. The auction has little to no information, but the seller is apparently in the state of Maryland (one of Econolite's largest customers), and the auction also contains a picture of the serial number on one of the controllers. We searched for records of that serial number here at the office and found that the controller was the property of the Maryland State Highway Administration, and was actually repaired by us fairly recently (in other words, they had no reason to sell it).

MSHA is investigating this situation currently, but at the moment I would consider these controllers STOLEN GOODS, and would strongly advise against anyone purchasing them.

Here is a link to the auction in question, for clarity: http://www.ebay.com/itm/290842430914?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Again, it is likely that these are STOLEN GOODS, so I highly advise against purchasing them.

I contacted the state earlier today, they forwarded it to the proper parties in the department.

So that's how they "got wind"...I should have known :Wink2: . I contacted our tech rep out there and he is talking to them about this issue, along with the info I provided from you and my coworker who looked up the serial number.

When the Econolite rep was by last month, he asked about my hobby stuff and I mention the old Eagle that I picked up. I also told him that I'd seen ASC/3 on eBay. He told me about the thefts and noted that the serial numbers of the stolen units were known. It seems that stolen units don't come with a warranty.

Of course! Since working with the SHA's railroad crossing guy, I made contacts with the other departments, and will occasionally report things that they may not know about. Contacted them this morning abot it when I asked the seller where he got them from and if he'd allow in-person pickup. His answer was .. curious, and when Sorhpin told me your reply to the serial number, I sent them an email.

As much as I'd like an ASC/3 - I ain't gonna get one that the state needs!

Yea, the auction looks a bit odd... and he's never going to get anyone to bite at that price!

ALL his stuff looks ODD!!!!

But the fact that he put up the serial number means he does not know or is just stupid...... :Phil:
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

I have a close relationship with the Columbus Police department.I almost ask him to ship the items to the Police headquarters. That would not sound good at all.
