There are some written signals in Germany. I guess every city does its own thing

E.g. in my town we have "warte" (wait) in the older signals. Now we have "Bitte warten" in the round form and LED technique, too. I will take photos...
All (known) forms are:
- "warte" (wait)
- "Bitte warten" (please wait)
- "Signal kommt" (signal will come...)
- "Grün kommt" (green will come...)
Those written signals come in different ways, e.g. in Schleswig-Holstein they have "Signal kommt" as static signals in red. Cologne mainly has "Bitte warten" as static signal in white. In the Sauerland (e.g. Warstein, Winterberg etc.) have those signals Ampelfreund mentioned. In the easter parts of Germany they sometimes use this rectangular form with "Signal kommt". In the Ruhr area you will maily find "warte" or "Bitte warten". This thing with "Grün kommt" is familiar in the Münsterland. Some parts of Germany does not have any acknowlegment signals and the poeple are often wondering about this flashing white light
