My New Signal

Postby johnk12 on Fri Aug 30, 2013 7:59 am

I have not Posted here for quite a while. Not because I lost interest. Last summer I picked up a job call that I thought would last about 4 months. Instead It went on for a year working 6 10 hour days with a 3 hour round trip for me so I have had no life & no time for my toys. It finally came to an end last Friday.
The very next day I was on Ebay & found a 4 way signal IN Kalamazoo MI only 1/2 hour away from me. I Am now the proud owner of my first 4 way. I can find no marks or logos any where on it so I am posting some pictures so maybe someone can tell me who made it.
Now for the restoration part. The light for the most part is in good shape there are some missing door pins but the reflectors are good, the sockets & wiring are good, & the body is good. As always you have to take Ebay listings with a grain of salt. The listing said it had 1 missing lens. The reality is someone put in a bunch of miss matched & broken lenses. there are 2 polly. lenses the rest are cracked or have holes in them from someone shooting something at them, so I have to replace them all. I need 3) each of red, yellow, & green + gaskets (8 1/4"). I have a spare set which is why I only need 3 of each. I also could use 3) extra gaskets (the ones I salvaged from the light are crumbling) could use some of the tabs that hold the lens in many where are missing If anyone has any of this stuff they want to sell please contact me.
If it helps identify the light the 3 lenses that were in the gaskets and looked original had a logo in the center it was 2 flags crossed that said stop & go in front of what looked like a speedometer

Looks familiar to me. Tacoma was Eagle country. It's an Eagle 43E; the crossed flags was Eagle's logo.

I still have a few assorted tabs left from my old signal shop's junk drawer. Post a closeup picture of a tab from your signal and you may get lucky.

Judging by the reflector frames, that is the newest version of an Eagle 4 way.

Thanks for the info . Its nice to know who made it. I took it apart to clean it & I think I want to repaint the box frames. Its not that bad but needs some touch ups. Does anyone know what color yellow it is. I don't want to re paint the doors & visors. They look okay. The work out look in my area is better than it has been in the last 3 or 4 years & I would like to get it back together before I pick up a call on top of all the other things around the house I have been putting off for the last year.

Well I got it finished this weekend. New lenses, new bulbs, new hinge pins, & touched up the paint. Its a good looking light & I am happy with it.

On to the next project. I got this the same day I got the 4 way. I temped it up in my shop just to see how it looked

That looks similar to a Safetran Bell. We have one on Sondra's RR setup. Had to find one end of the winding on the electro-magnet and attach a new wire to make hers work which is 12 vdc.

Yes the bell does work. These two make my 5th & 6th signal. The first thing my wife asks me when I come home with something is "where you going to put it."
I was just wondering. When I first got the four way it had a lens in it that was clear blue glass. It was not embossed at all. I have never seen one in a traffic signal. Does any know what it might have come from?
