Test fitting in the garage, I have since cleaned it up a little.

Bringing it home, fit perfectly across the rear seat of my friend's Honda Prelude.

Is there an easy way to figure out the approximate age of this?

My addiction started 8 short weeks ago with a single hand/man ped signal. I now have 5 RYG signals, 1 doghouse, 6 ped's, and an Econolite Type F E/M controller.

They are like Lay's potato chips.......nobody can buy just one!!!!

Welcome to the forum! :hello:

Welcome aboard Joe!

My basement is getting full as well. I have added 5 signals to my collection this summer/fall since joining the forum in June. My most recent finds are 12-8-8 CH R type and a 12-8-8 Marbelite.

Welcome, Joe.

12" signals were first produced by a few companies probably around 1950. Looks like you have a Marbelite from roughly the mid-late 1960s, by my estimate.

The first 12" model made by Marbelite had housing modules that were welded together from a few parts. That model was evidently not produced very long, and is extremely hard to find, either on the street or in anyone's collection. Next came the cast that you have there. The earlier examples of your cast more likely used the Kopp diamond patterns lenses, then a bit later, the brick pattern you have there was used. Sometime, possibly around 1970 (a guess, really) that model was altered slightly, most noticeably by the addition of a raised lip around the door perimeter. I think yours falls roughly in the middle of the Marbelite 12" signal timeline, which spans from about 1950 to about 1978.

They don't call him Sir Marbelot for nothing! Actually, there are quite a few well-versed "signal heads" here and no shortage of knowledge.

Welcome to the group, Joe.

Peace!

What does the top of bottom look like? And the hardware connecting the sections together? The door is a 1960s or earlier style. If it has 3 small circles in the top/bottom than the 1950s.

This one has a lip around the outside of the door, So it is from the 1970s

The one on the left is like yours and the one on the right is like the black one.....

Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.
