Hello from Arkansas

Postby WellFedHobo on Thu Aug 16, 2012 6:55 pm

:hello: Hey all. My name is Bradley and I live in Cabot, Arkansas. I'm a customer support tech for a software company you've probably never heard of. Last year I saw an old traffic light on my local Craigslist and bought it on impulse. I thought it would be a cool thing to hang on the wall. All the parts were there so I threw some bulbs in it, did some quick wiring, and it works. I wanted to get a sequencer for it but priorities shifted for awhile. Earlier this month, I was going to sell it because I needed some cash but realized that it's still a really cool piece to have so I kept it. I searched the internet for more information about it but really didn't find much info. I'm no stranger to forums so I knew a place like this would be a good source of information.

I like working on all kinds of mechanical stuff and I'm also a car guy so I figured this light would be a nice thing to hang up in the garage (once I get one...)

Anyways, you're probably wondering about the light. It's a Marbelite, probably late 60's. All I know is that it used to hang in downtown Little Rock on 7th street. It doesn't look like it has ever been repainted and I love that original look so it'll probably stay just as it is. I'd love to get more info so I'll be searching around here for awhile.

Welcome to the club, and nice Marbelite!

You'll find a wealth of info here, and beware, once you learn more and more about signals you'll be buying more until you have a basement full. Or at least that is what happened to me!

HI BRADLEY!! WELCOME TO THE CLUB!! :hello:

'ya gotta be kidding -- it's finally happened...??? ANOTHER Forums member in ARKANSAS?? We're gonna havta either work together, or become our own worst nightmares...I'll vote for the former!

That's an awesome Marbelite -- do 'ya have any clue where on 7th St it might have lived? (and did it come via Conway by any chance? I remember a CL listing for a couple lights from a storage locker there awhile ago, but they were sold by the time I responded to the ad) I have an 8" Marbelite, but mine came via TX. And these are still hanging around 'in service' not too far away from my home, at least the last time I was out that way:

Hello, Bradley. Welcome to the forums.

I like your traffic signal. It appears to be Marbelite's model TE-19408. What logo does the traffic signal actually have behind it? From the mid 1960s or so until the early 1970s, it had used the famous parallelogram (right to left) logo. In the early 1970s, the traffic signal was redesigned for mainly durability purposes, and it then had used the "traffic signal logo." This was until 1978. That is a fairly easy way to tell what decade it is from. Anyway, it looks nice.

Thanks for the welcome.

Tim - All I know is that it was hanging downtown on 7th street. I got it from a gentleman in Sherwood and don't have any more info than that.

Steven - It is indeed a model TE-19408. And it has the parallelogram logo.
