Howdy Folks,

As mentioned in another thread, we picked up some old Crouse Hinds lights which include two horizontals with the electrical box that afixes to a post.

These lights have been sitting in a junk lot for 25 years. A good bit of the paint has peeled off which will make it easier to clean up. Unfortunately due to sitting in the weather, some of the machine screws will need to be drilled out. There is some rust on steel parts and corrosion on some of the aluminum. A couple of doors on one light was cracked due to the lights being moved and thrown around through the years. One light I had to use a pry bar to lift debris off to remove.

Below are photos of tearing down some of the lights today.

CH type "D" light #1

This light has the tag with Type TSB 113

The first two lights I took apart were a tease. This next light has a few screws and parts that will need more attention.
CH type "DT" light #3

Two of the doors are fractured on this light.

Will have to work on the levers and screws holding the visors inplace.

and now for the Horizontal-mount CH type "D" light #4
This light saw a bit of abuse. All the sections were loose and as a whole was not ridged.

At least one stubborn machine screw in each of the door hinges. Will require drilling.

Electrical connection box cover off.

Part of the electrical box has a fracture. Probably due to being thown around and having heavy objects dropped on it in the junk lot.

The other horizontal CH light looks to be in far better condition than the one we just disassembed.

Cheers!

Looks like one of the D's has a porthole reflector in it

Did your D's have aluminum reflectors and the DT's glass?

Hi Larry,

I don't know what a "porthole reflector" looks like?

Did find one aluminum reflector in a "D" out of the four lights I took apart today. Odd thing is two reflectors from one light were a 1/4 inch thick glass. Will take photos tomorrow of the different reflectors and post here. Do wonder what light the 1/4 inch reflectors originally went with?

As to the lenses, there is a mixture of Smileys, Eagles, some other brands and two plastic. Next Saturday plan to get the Smileys I saw in the two Eagles and see if there are any CH reflectors in those two units. Will need three yellow Smileys before the end of this project.

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

Are either of these reflectors for "porthole" lights? Or what do they originally go to?

This reflector is 7-7/8 inches in diameter. Hole is 2-5/16 inches in diameter. Concave depth is 2-1/2 inches. Glass looks to be 1/4 inch thick.

There is some lettering on the back of the second reflector which we can not make out. Any ideas on what this says?

The first word looks like it says "SABLE" but I'm guessing the stamp actually reads "EAGLE SIGNAL CORPORATION MOLINE ILL"
