Highway... stuff

Postby EdT. on Sat Feb 19, 2011 1:31 am

Okay, this is definitely not signal or sign related (well, somewhat tangentially so to signs I guess) but it doesn't fit in Street Furniture and I didn't want it getting lost in The Lounge. Perhaps we need to morph this forum into "Books and ephemera" or the like?

Anyway, here it is. Over the years I've managed to accumulate some rather odd but interesting highway related tidbits.

I believe my collection of modern NorthEastern highway coins is complete (I don't believe they made a Bronx River Parkway coin):

The New York State Thruway

The Pennsylvania Turnpike

The New Jersey Turnpike

And lastly, The Garden State Parkway

Then I have my collection of NJ highway badges and IDs:

If you guys are real good, someday I'll post my collection of HoJo NJ and PA Turnpike collectors plates and other souvenirs.

Cool coinage Ed. I never knew they made those. How does one acquire them?
:MB:

What's with all the quotes in everyone's signatures?

Thanks. I picked up all four of them off of :ebay: over the course of 5 years or so.

I would imagine that they were produced in limited numbers. Do you know what the purpose of the minting was? Besides the obvious making money for the state thing... :this: Simple commemoration or was there more to it than that?

I just wish I'd saved one of the Triborough Bridge & Tunnel Authority tokens that were eliminated with the adoption of E-ZPass....
