New to this group / video of Detroit Traffic Lights!!

Postby Stationary Engineer on Fri Jan 16, 2009 2:24 pm

Hello Everyone,

Im a newbie here and my name is Mike. Im from the Detroit area. Ive already posted under the restoration forum (sorry I fell off the welcome wagon, heh)

Anyways, Im a traffic signal admirer, Great Lakes Ship buff, Train and Traffic enthusiast, Mucician, and Bus Driver.

Here is a video of some old traffic signals in the Detroit area, (accompanied by the Detroit's own Fox Theater WurliTzer pipe organ!)
Enjoy!

Michael

Cool Vid! The classic organ sound really goes good with the classic lights. Thanks for including a pic of Tiger Stadium too. Well done! :good:

Very nice video. I also liked the RED YELLOW and WAIT signal. :good:
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Yeah that is one of my favorites too. But I was really admiring the organ music as the sound track and yes the signals are delightful! Great job with the video Mike. You should team up with Joe who's been cataloging these lights for many years.
Moderately inspirational message.

Is that so! Thats really cool. Joe when you read this thread, maybe you could send me a PM, if you would be so generous and have these Detroit area signals documented in a program like word, perhaps you could send me a copy? I would be happy to put on disc photos of the corresponding installations.
Glad you all enjoyed the video! PS I took some more video today in Dearborn of old signals... check it out in the MEDIA section.

Wow! That's neat Mike. (Would that be you playing the organ?)

Nice video Mike! Welcome to the club!
Some of those signals look like they need to be retired and added to yur collection.

That DPD box would be above the old Flashing single face black r-y-g Marbelite (also in the video). If it is still there, according to my SWAG... (Scientific Wild @#$ Suess) That would be right next to historic St. Francis Catholic Church, Buchanan St and Campbell St, Detroit, MI 48210. :) Any idea what it did? It looked to be signal related.

I was wondering about that box in your video too. I've never seen one of those anywhere before. Neat find!
