Cabinet mounting questions

Postby TheHOODLUM on Sun Dec 09, 2012 5:40 pm

I'm going on with my project to bring a 20amp electric into the back yard for a few outdoor spotlights and to power my post mount 2 way TSI cluster. I haven't decided which controller to use yet but the small TSI and the CH PCN100 don't look easy to mount to the side of the 4.5" pole. Both of those cabinets have a hole on the top and bottom with 4 screw holes around the big holes. I have a photo to show what I'm talking about:

What parts would I need to mount either cabinet to the 4.5" pole? I really would hate to drill new holes in the back of the cabinets but I was thinking of the band clamp method which is probably how my eagle cabinet was mounted as it has holes on the back at the top and bottom:

any suggestions or imput would help me to decide which way to go and I also will need to find the parts I will need. thanks for looking

I would fabricate an "L" bracket that would use the existing mounting holes on the top/bottom of the cabinet and have a tab to run a bolt through into the pole. The bottom bracket can be drilled out for a conduit "LB" for a raceway into the pole.

It looks like the Eagle cabinet woukld be easier to mount with the band brackets. Where would I find the bands?

Does the bolt pattern on either cabinet match up to the fittings made to connect conduits to electrical drop/service panel boxes?

That's what I'm thinking, I'd say go to Home Depot/Lowes or a supply house and check out a hub-plate, they usually have anything from 3/4-1 1/2" conduit threads.

I was at Lowes today to get some more supplies for the electrical install and saw some of those but I forget to measure the holes on the cabinets so I will have to go back. But looking at the cabinets again they look bigger than what I saw but those parts must be available from somewhere.

What I think I'll be needing is the bands that go with band brackets, I ordered 2 brackets from Alloy Castings.

Heck I'd say even if it's a close match just drill it out for the new hub pattern. It figures I was supposed to bring the work truck home tonight but that changed last minute, we have 17,403 of those things on the truck I could measure for you. :Phil:
