It started out with just cleaning up the reflectors and repairing one of them, check out the "mirror paint" post. Before long, it was all in pieces, I guess this is my next project.











It's all in pretty good shape, but here's a small want/need list if anyone can help.

2 sockets, the ones in the signal were toast, no insulation on most of them, all but 2 of them can be rebuilt.

1 base, this one does not have the flared bottom.

12 lens gaskets, they are all pretty much toast!!

It looks to me like at least some of those sockets are salvageable. I do see that you have quite an assortment of different types of them and I'm sure you'd like to have all of the same kind so maybe someone in the group can set you up with enough of them to make a complete set.

Here's some pic's of the inside, it would have been quite a fireworks show if it were hooked up in this condition!!



There are two CH sockets that are in good shape. (see below) 10 more of these would be nice!!



But the rest of them can't be used.





There are a coulple of these sockets that are safe to use, but they don't fit right. The flange doesn't work with the reflector.

Of the sockets that you say can't be used, the first and second one are indeed usable. They can be rebuilt with new wiring and will do just fine. As for the last one with the back end, I've never seen one like that before so I can't speak for it.

Wow, they do come apart!! Thanks for the tip!!

With a little clean up, I should be able to solder new wires to them and they'll be good as new!!

I do want to replace the two oddball sockets though. I'll edit the original post from 12 to 2 on the sockets.

How true!!!

It all starts innocently enough but once it starts, there is no stopping until the job is done. You know my DT restoration? That started as 'Oh I'll just have Gordon rewire it and rehab the sockets for safety and we'll call it good.' Once the wires were out I thought about getting rid of the deteriorated door gaskets and decided that would look pretty poor against the dirty and weathered interior so I just went for broke and decided to do a full restore.

All that took about 30 seconds....
