Name That Fastener !!!

Postby returntosender on Sun Mar 10, 2013 7:37 pm

Hey guys,
I'm restoring some railroad signals and i need help with a bolt type
See the pics below but basically it's a bolt with 2 different size threads, I cant find it anywhere online or in stores.
Just wondering if there's a " Technical" name for it.
Thanks everyone :hello:

Interesting bolt. Probably made for it's specific application at the time of manufacture and unavailable elsewhere now would be my first guess. You might just have to buy a bolt with the same length and the larger thread. Then have a machinist turn the end of the bolt down in a lathe and re-thread it with the smaller threads.

What's with all the quotes in everyone's signatures?

I know they refer to a bolt with different sizes as a "shoulder bolt" or "shoulder screw" but I've never seen one threaded all the way like that. Usually the shoulder or top portion in blank and the smaller diameter is threaded.

Since you have the signal, I would think you could look online for their part(s) numbers.

I am guessing it is for aiming and is mounted in the base???
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

The Lathe can do the threading also
