The New led countdown + Uni-lens light is prettey cool, although I assume these will have identical problems to the types experimented with elsewhere in the world.

What does intregue me is how one lady in the middle of the road can control 4 movements of traffic simultaniously at one time, and the drivers understand her! She's working mentally like a 5 or 6 stage, 9 phase controller from what I can work out on that vid

I can't believe that countdown indicator has 3 digits? When would you ever need to count such a high duration?

True.

Also to note is that for a CDT to work, the system must be fixed time. Fixed time systems are old, in all honesty. :-)

I wouldn't be surprised if those Asian market counting vehicle signals have a data cable to the controller. The one pictured above is very similar to the kind used in China, counting down, counting thru, etc. So, maybe the split for that street may not need a 3 digit read out, but whilst it is timing down to the next green the time could well be over 99 seconds. Recently we have been using 210 sec dials.

Mmm,

Dublin in Irelandworked fixed time for years, and they installed CDT for the pedestrian phases, however it moved to SCATS, and they were all dissconnected bar the sets on O'Connell Street, which run the same timings every cycle.

Thanks Dennis. I'm digging that new Korean sig!

I guess they restrict color blind people from driving over there?
