Update on CH Art Deco - Tear Down

Postby khardy on Tue Jan 15, 2013 10:26 pm

Hi Folks,

Since we decided NOT to cannibalize the Crouse Hinds DT "Art Deco" light, we have continued with cleaning, blasting and polishing parts in preparation of painting. Reference: CH Art Deco - Tear Down
Below are photos of our progress so far....

There are a couple of parts from our CH TSW 443 in the mix in this photo.

After the aluminum parts were blasted, we ran them through the dishwasher with a double dose of powdered Cascade which causes the aluminum to turn a darker color. The Cascade helps to remove any abrasive material, dirt and corrosion which does not damage the metal.

These are the reflector brackets after polishing.

Cheers!

Never thought of the dishwasher for that!! Thanks for that tip, now all I need is a dishwasher to accomplish it.

Glad to see you're not parting out the single face after all, are you going to find another light for parts to the four-way? I'll be watching this one, those reflector frames look really good polished.

Dishwashers are great but I just got a new one and no more signal parts and corvette wiring harnesses in this one

Hi Ian,

After we had originally posted we were going to cannibalize the DT light, we had a reasonable offer of parts to fit on the CH TSW 443 from Signalstand which we took.

We have most everything we need to complete/restore both lights. As to the machine screws in the DT light, most were steel and rusty so we are replacing all with brass. We have a really nice old family owned hardware store near here that has all the screws and bolts we need. No need of McMaster Carr. Sondra and I now plan to restore the DT Light. We have thoughts of installing it on one of the posts we have.

Cheers!
