I wanted to post some pictures of a few neon pedestrian signals that are still operating in Roanoke, Virginia.
I did a little searching and found five intersections that still have winkomatic neon pedestrian signals (16 inch variety) I didn't find any "Jumbo Tron" winkomatic peds.
Frankin Ave and 1st Street
Church Street and 1st Street
Kirk Street and 1st Street
Campbell Ave and 1st Street
Campbell Ave and Jefferson Street
Most of the intersections above have only one or two signal heads left that are a neon don't walk/walk units. (Except Frankin and 1st) The rest of the pedestrian signals are modern 16 inch LED hand/man units. The city is slowly replacing the neon units so now there is just a few of them at randon locations in the downtown area. In 2009 or 2010, the city replaced all on the 8 inch vehicular signals (Mostly CH type R) in the downtown area with modern 12 inch McCain's.
I've posted some pictures from the intersection at Franklin and 1st Street. Enjoy!
I like how the city of Roanoke uses a stacked type mounting for their pedestrian signals.
