Yes, but any discussion about a "stripper pole" will probably get a lot more hits than one about stripping paint.

I'd be curious what the restorationists versus the preservationists think about this topic.

If you are sandblasting an old signal, aren't you actually knocking off some of the metal of the signal itself? So the signal ends up being a little less of what it was before.

It depends on air pressure. If you have the air compressor set at the right pressure, (just enough to blast the paint off) then there should be no problems.

But you can actually blast a hole thru the metal or warp visors if the air is turned up to 11.

Which is where I prefer to keep my guitar amps turned to.

My personal preference is to start with a chemical stripper (Butcher's Bare Knuckles) and follow it up with glass bead blasting. The glass beads are much less abrasive to the metal and leave a nice matte finish that gives the metal enough "tooth" to grab onto either powder or paint. If you're really concerned about getting a high gloss finish when painting, just start with a high build primer, sand it smooth and then do the top coat.
I'm so old I remember when the word "mother" only had one meaning!!!

I prefer sandblasting, it is quick and less messy if you use a cabinet, and it does a great job of preping the metal for paint or power coat. I use glass bead if there is only a layer or two of paint. If there is a lot of heavy coats of paint I will use coal slag "black beauty" it is a more agressive media.
