Another "J" Name?!

Thank You for letting me join.

This looks like a great place and a great hobby, albeit expensive! :o

I'm Jim from Oregon, aka TheJEPs. I have 4 signals so far, but I always want more. Certainly no professional collector, but I'll be working on it.

Can anyone name an adult hobby in which one would have difficulty sinking (say) $10,000?

Jim,

Howdy and welcome aboard! :hello:

AFAIK, there are no professional signal collectors. I've tossed it around a hundred different ways and I still can't figure out a way to get someone to pay me to collect these things. A very sad commentary on our society as a whole I'd say.

As for it being expensive - I know for myself and many other collectors here, our favorite pieces have been purchased at prices far below what they're worth. It's all a matter of patience and vigilance. ;)

I'm loving that avatar! Is that in your collection (looks like a photo)? Got any other signs?

I have your 99's City Route cousin (unrestored):

Indeed! It is a reproduction <sigh>, but I love it. Very heavy and fully embossed. The cost of these, too, is going overboard, so I've actually had a couple items made at a sign shop in vinyl which are about $15-20, then I attach them to a board with the same shape. They turned out nice, and it's definately good yard art.

Here is a shot of my garage with another Oregon US shield ,the one I had made> and a couple other reproduction signs, and of course my Wayne 505 Duo-1 in the background.

Jim,
Welcome.
Forget the signs, that pump is Shweeeet!
Spoiler:
But I would be glad to take that shield off your hands Ed!

I've been working on a Tokhein 34 for the last year. It came from an old station on Long Island and has a "NY Shut-Off", which is something even the old pump collectors have never seen on the 34's.

Hope to see you around and look forward to other great treasures you've collected. :good:
