I would guess the first two with the red + arrow combo is simply saying that you need to stop before proceeding, I guess like a stop sign......sort of.

I really like those railway crossing setups.........can't figure out what the hell they mean but do look cool :crazy:

The red plus arrow is a consequence of their law. Indiana used to have the same law. A green arrow had to be displayed with a red stopping the other movements. They have not yet gotten the idea that different movements can be indicated by different signal faces. All of the faces at an intersection show the same display.

No, because they have all signal faces in one direction displaying the same thing. They do not have the concept of different signal faces for different movements written into their law.

I don't quite think you're understanding me.

On a 4 aspect face, with Red Amber Green and GA, in Japan, the signals show a red aspect with any other arrow movements, as we assume its mandatory. There's plenty of videos demonstrating this on the internet.

So why in the site videoed in the first scene of the posted video are the signals going from red to a different red aspect. There's no need for it, as I've pointed out in the last paragraph.

It could've cycled like this, without harm:

Red (right)
Red (right) + arrows (below)
Amber (centre)
Red (right)

As opposed to this, which is a bit pointless when both methods achieve the same outcome, which is a signal face with red lit whilst the arrows are on:

Red (right)
Red (left) + arrows (below)
Amber (centre)
Red (right)
