Imported signal!

Postby cjsebes on Tue Sep 06, 2011 11:09 pm

Every so often I've been brushing up on my German and chatting with David, one of our signalfan friends in Germany. Nice kid and he's fun to chat with. Kind of like a 21st-century pen pal of sorts.

Anyway were were chatting one day and decided to exchange a signal with each another. I sent him my poly McCain and he sent me one of his poly Siemens. I have been crazy busy the last few weeks so I haven't had a chance to really take a look at it in detail, but here's a photo.

I'm excited to have a signal from somewhere so far away, as well as a place I'd like to visit some day. Shipping my signal to Germany wasn't cheap, but I think the experience was absolutely worth the opportunity to get a German signal. And David already has "his new signal" hanging in his room.

ohh a Siemens Signal!!

look like a E27 signal. but I can´t see it perfect.
if the mirrors show a small black cycle is it lowvolt 230V to 10V transformers.
if not show this cycle is it E27

That was a great trade!!!
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

David sent it with the visors detached. It was a beach putting them back on. I was afraid I was going to snap something, since they snap on... they're not held on by screws. And for the opening, it's just as Ampelfreund demonstrated in the video. I have yet to open it. I'm afraid I'll snap something. But, fear not! It will be opened. I have to find the time to examine my new signal. Pictures will follow!

Nice signal!

I've always wanted a German head, and was going to buy one a few years back. Other things got in the way, however, but I may look into it again soon!

On some European standard heads (you'll notice, most are very similar), the visors simply push on! Nothing keeps them in place, and therefore it isn't uncommon to find them missing if they aren't maintained as well as they could be.

If you scroll down a few posts in this SABRE thread, you'll see these heads being used to conform with pre-1961 UK regulations in Ireland (The Republic of). These heads (and many that Ireland used) do not conform to UK standards, and do not have to (being a different country), however they often follow british practices, in this case such as 'WAIT' and 'CROSS' or 'CROSS NOW' signals, and British push buttons, and British stripey columns.

The yellow Ped button, and the green walking man are replacement parts.
