UK Plessey Signal Back Home....Sorta

Postby Canuck_in_TX on Sun Nov 03, 2013 10:34 am

My U.K. Plessey signal is back where it began somewhat. A few years ago my barber moved his shop and was selling some things such as an old barber chair; mirrors; some furniture, etc. He also had an old U.K. Plessey signal that hung in the shop for many years. He gave me first rights to the signal since he knew I was into traffic signals and had installed a sequencer into it for him after commenting how it needed to come alive instead of just have all 3 bulbs light up at once. It was painted green when I bought it but I stripped it down and found the original black & white paint stripe scheme underneath a couple layers of paint. I then repainted it the black and white colors.

I've had it in my game room the last 4 years but after commenting to the barber that he needed another signal in his new shop it was decided I'd bring back the U.K. Plessey "on loan".

Here's a pic:

I plan on doing a few changes to my game room wall so this was a good temporarily home for the English signal for now. Even better that it's now being displayed there in it's original colors and now sequencing like they do over in England with the overlapping red/yellow before changing to green.
A cop pulled me over and said, "Papers..." So I replied, "Scissors! I win!" and drove off.

Your room looks cool with them both in there!! :good:
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

It's a much smaller shop than what he originally had but now it's just him cutting hair and his shop is located inside a building with many salon shops inside (gorgeous women to gawk at while you are waiting to get a haircut  ). When he first moved he sold a lot of the items and went to a uni-sex modern type of hair salon/barbershop and his wife who also did hair changed the décor big time and insisted on no "manly" items on the walls. The 2nd location was not that great and the rent was going to go way too high so he moved again into the 3rd location with a one chair barbershop and just him. He started to bring back the "cool" manly stuff and that's when we started talking traffic signals...bring back the old.

He's very trustworthy and a great guy...I've known him since 1997 which was when I first moved to Texas. I've told him to make sure his Mrs. knows who owns the traffic signal incase he kicks the bucket. :bye:
