PM about profile

Postby traffic-light-man on Wed Aug 22, 2012 6:23 am

I've just received a PM saying that my profile is incomplete.

AFAIK, its been complete since I joined the forums! Was it sent in error or am I missing something?

I just don't want to leave it incomplete if there is something missing so thought I'd check :good:

Not a very good one, as I didn't get it.

Edit: Unless it went to my Spam PM folder. I'll have to check. :Wink2:

Guys, I offered to help the moderators with the incomplete profiles. I sent out the email to anyone that has an incomplete profile. The main things that I was looking for are the city, and state where you live. Most of the incomplete profiles are missing a name or last name initial in the signature so please check to see if yours is complete . Not everyone with an incomplete profile has received the notice yet. I'm sending them as I have time.

Just in case you're wondering why such a big fuss over the incomplete profile? All the information is useful to the members in one way or another. Take for instance, you see a light on craigslist that is in Los Angeles, but it is " pick up only ". You can look at the members profile to see which member is closer to the signal, and ask him if he would pick it up for you. If a member is selling a part you can look, and see where he is from so you can get an idea of have far the item will have to travel to get to you, and get an idea on the shipping cost before you commit to buying it. If you look at my signature you will see that I included where I live for this reason. This is not a requirement, but feel free to add the city, and state where you live in your signature if you want to.

The name is required so the members know how to address the person that they are responding to. I don't think that you guys what to reply to a post saying " Hey MVMWXYZ" ? The last name initial is also nice to know because we have a few duplicate names in the club, and I would like to know which Mike I'm talking to. While I'm at it the age is a good thing to know....I would hate to be talking to someone about the " Woodstock " festival if they are only 13 years old!

I know that some of you guys might say that you've been in the club forever, and everyone knows who you are just by your club name although that might be true with the old members, but we have new members coming in all the time.

Let's not make a big deal about this....... please check, and fill out your profiles with the info that I just mentioned. We're all friends in here you don't have to hide anything from us. :good:

BTW, Jay, and Simon your last name initial is missing.

When was the 'name in the signature' required? I don't remember that ever being mentioned before?

Maybe I'm getting old. Hell.. I'm closer to 40 now than I am 30.  Worst thing is, I got nothing to show for it. :Wink2:

Officially about a year and a half ago. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=6671 Unofficially, 2+ years ago. Seeing it in other peoples profile it looked like such a good idea we started asking all new members to do it and since then many members have followed suit without even asking. Easy offered to help in cleaning up some of the small profile details so don't come down on him too hard. He's actually an alright guy.
Mostly when he's asleep though. :rotfl: :Wink2:

Most members here know my name, and use it as necessary here, but I have no interest in putting it in my signature at this time.

I guess I may be alone on this one
