City of Dallas sign and signal shop

Postby DFWSignals89 on Tue Jul 23, 2013 7:36 pm

I made a trip over to the City of Dallas signal and sign shop today! Just one of the many perks of working for a city owned transit authority! The head of the shops said I could take what ever I wanted from two massive scrap sign piles. I was able to snag some signs I had been after for a long time!

First, here are some shots of the signs they had on display in the shops main hallway. These are old signs made from back in the 70s and 80s. They had a silkscreen machine that could transfer graphics onto reflective material.

Yes, this sign is reflective.... a picture of a signal crew installing new signs.

Winko no left turn sign (from 1958) that I think is neon and a set of large bead art decos once used at the gates of Fair Park in Dallas' south east side.

1/3 of the signs I got from the sign shop scrap pile!

Thanks for posting the photos. Great stuff.

What were the CH decos mounted on? Octagonal bases?

Yeah I didn't get a good shot of them with my cell phone. There was an old mechanical controller too.

Lucky you!
A cop pulled me over and said, "Papers..." So I replied, "Scissors! I win!" and drove off.

Not sure what that signal was. I think it was one of Dallas' first lights. I was crunched for time so I just took a few quick shots and left. If make it back over there soon ill get some more pictures. There were a few other goodies in the hallway there that were not pictured.
