And.....Siemens enters the running!!

EM, NEMA, whatever - if it controls a traffic signal, you can talk about it here.

And.....Siemens enters the running!!

Siemens and Iteris have joined forces to create the first all-in-one video processor and traffic controller! Part Siemens M50 traffic controller...Part Iteris Vantage video processor. This will save shelf space in the cabinet for sure!

Says who? I plan on updating my video system from the VideoTrak machine to Iteris cards in a proper TS2 rack someday in the future. Right now I've been really stretching my signal hobby dollar :rotfl:

I think its awesome you can program the Iteris processors without external software...just a mouse and a monitor The VideoTrak requires PC software and is a hefty unit! Works well though for being an early model

Siemens is also in cahoots with Sensys so that the expansion card isn't needed in the rack. The additional outputs are directly available in the controller. Since we are using both, it fits nicely into our system. The new microradar pucks can split the detection outputs between a bike or a vehicle.

Thats neat that the manufacturers are coming out with all-in-one controllers with built in load switches, monitors, and/or detection. Maybe we will start to see cabinets shrink in size as the electronics become all-in-one units.

I don't see that happening any time soon.

I like having less clutter in the cabinets though

Naztec makes a unit just like that http://www.precisiontrafficsafety.com/wp-content/themes/theme-precisiontraffic-3.6/datasheets/naztec_microcab_ac.pdf
While it's a good idea, there are several drawbacks to everything being in one box. Plus, that unit is only really good for 2 phase operation (6 output channels), so it's quite limited. More outputs would be nice, but of course the size would have to increase quite a bit to get this thing anywhere near running an 8 phase intersection.

Yeah i definitely see the drawback of having it all contained. I remember seeing the Naztec Unit which has everything installed. Intelight makes a CBD model with "label maker" style handheld controller with load switches built in. The monitor and detectors are still separate though.
