Out of Luck

Postby 3Mfanatic on Sat Feb 09, 2013 4:26 am

Alright folks, I'm stumped yet again. Installing the DC coil in the EF-20 was about one of the most challenging things I've ever done and I'll readily admit I ran into it without my usual care. I failed to document how it came apart so now I'm having issues with it back together.

When the weight rises and falls (by hand), it does not advance the cam unless the controller is tipped on its back then it works fine so I'm pretty convinced I've installed a part backwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Photos are large to show detail.

The parts are installed correctly. I think the issue may be the support holding the upper rubber bumper. It is not allowing the cam to move high enough for the toggle to engage the tooth on the cam. Loosen the screws and tweak it up a little.

I think I had the same problem when I converted mine. I actually removed the bumper and installed a piece of sponge rubber on the hammer. It actually quieted the controller a bit and allowed for clearance to index properly. I also have a return spring on my hammer to force it back down.

Turns out my problem was the hook catch that rises and falls with the hammer to advance the cam. Apparently it has a very light spring tensioner on it to keep it oriented in the correct direction and mine got spun out of tension which caused the floppiness that was leading to my issue. With the box on its back, gravity would hold the hook down but once vertical, it would be at the whims of physics. I got it spun around and it is downstairs running right now and quiet as a church mouse. Everybody is happy!

Thanks, Joe!! (both of you :Wink2:)
