Change in flashing red/yellow in Indiana?

Postby SignalFreak on Sat Jul 27, 2013 9:59 am

It seems that rather recently, all the flashing indications in Northwest Indiana went from "wig wag" to just "wig".

It's a rather small change, but I've noticed it. We have 2 separate intersections on US 20 that have changed, and even one on US 12. Pretty sure this is a systemic change, and not just changing out of one or two flashers.

One of the intersections on google maps, showing the old wig-wag style: https://maps.google.com/?ll=41.689331,- ... 41,,0,0.55

Anyone from INDOT know why they did this? Does it increase visibility?

I've also noticed that all indications are now on the same circuit. Before, it would balance the load so that half the bulbs were always on. Now it's all on, all off.
