Old guy-wire masts

Postby SirMarbelot on Mon Sep 09, 2013 9:57 am

With so many of the ugly horizontal tube assemblies going up in NJ lately, I thought I'd start another nostalgic thread, this one specifically for some pictures of the old (angled) and VERY old (horizontal) guy wire masts that were the standard in New Jersey up until maybe the late 50s. The common aluminum truss rod masts (which I also like) became the standard at that time, and have remained as the NJ standard ever since, but they have been getting edged out lately by the big horizontal tubes (which I despise).

Here is a full intersection still using the angled guy wire masts with Marbelites, probably from the early 50's, in Glen Rock:

Hackensack has some odd guy-wire/trombone setups:

This one from Hudson County isn't showing the entire setup, but does have the telltale rodded mast end:

And you probably won't recognize this one... :P

Cincinnati has plenty of guy wires holding horizontal signals.

That's a neat set-up.

Is that used for a firehouse?

Yup. South Summit & Marvin in Hackensack. Not sure why I named the file StateSt...

So are those the 12" Econolite sections before the Bullseye sections rolled around? I've never seen those before.
