I am digging those Winko-Matic pedestrian signal housings. Makes me wonder if those originally used only "DONT" and "WALK" lenses at one time or another. Ones that I recall that used that set-up from Winko-Matic had visors attached to the housings.

As I recall, they (the winko-matics) had Walk/Don't Walk lenses until late 2012/early 2013.

Interesting to know. Thanks for that information.

Those backplates are awesome! Are those common thru out the state of Alabama or just in your neck of the woods? Also the tether job with the "Left turn Yield on Flashing Y arrow" is interesting too.

Just in my neck of the woods. I haven't seen any backgrounds like the ones here in any of the surrounding communities (Madison, Athens, Owens Crossroads, etc.)
I am a railfan, signalfan, and I'm interested in tornado sirens. I hope to learn new things about traffic lights because I'm interested in them and don't know much about them.

EPAC-EPIC-MARC wrote:I mentioned the water intrusion thing because, correct me if I'm wrong, standard backplate mounts have the machined holes on the edges of the signal's housing, not affecting the internal components of the signal itself. Most new housings are just hardware fitted into pre-molded areas of the housing. Drilling into the back of the signal seems like it may get water inside the signal over time, unless they put sealant around the drilled area.

Modern signals, yes. GE's, Econolites, etc. did just tap (or machine screw) into the body-side of the housing...apparently with little water intrusion.

Albeit most of my examples came from sunny & dri SoCAl.

Most of the signals in the pictures ARE newer signals with backplate mounting holes. This is just pure cheap.

I'm loving the Bullseyes though!!
