Found a Darely(?) Porthole Beacon in Kentucky on Google Maps

Postby freebrickproductions on Fri Jun 14, 2013 7:21 pm

I'm not sure why it is located at a railroad crossing, nor am I sure if it is still there as the satellite view for the area is not very good. It is located on Curdsville Road near the EW Brown Power Plant. Link to the beacon.
I am a railfan, signalfan, and I'm interested in tornado sirens. I hope to learn new things about traffic lights because I'm interested in them and don't know much about them.

Even with the incredibly blurry picture,  that looks like a CH "M" beacon to me.

That's a rather interesting find! I'd assume it's a Darley or Sowell porthole until I saw it in person. I'm not sure I ever saw a beacon controlling a train crossing before. I wonder if the RR sides light up to warn the train it's a level crossing!

I know that signal, that signal is located about 20 miles south from where I am! Whenever I go for a drive, I always come across that signal. I still don't know why it's there over a railroad crossing.
