Recoloring Plastic?

Postby coyttl on Sun Jan 27, 2013 11:58 am

Hey guys.. I figured that if it were possible, someone here would know.

I have some discolored plastics (sun, environment damage), and was wondering the best way to restore (or apply another) color? I'd have to say no to spray paint, or something that would be easily scratched off..

Thoughts?

Well if its not too faded or damaged...you could apply armor all to it. I did that with all my poly heads to bring out the shine.

I did spray paint my 9 inch DuraSig ped gloss black. It was a faded yellow with scratched up black-faded-grey visors and doors. The paint is holding well and was one of the easiest paint jobs I've done. Other than that I don't know how else you can apply another color, since the plastic resin is what is colored

That's what I was afraid of. The discoloration's more fading and yellowing than glossiness.

You might want to try polishing it with a fairly agressive polish. I've had limited success doing that with bakelite sockets. It all depends how deeply the degradation is.

As you feared, unless you paint it both you and the signal are SOL. May I suggest an alternative?
