Walkley Heights traffic depot

Postby That Aldridge Guy on Fri Nov 02, 2012 3:13 am

This week, I went to a large place known as the Walkley Heights DPTI depot on Wright Rd. It had some huge warehouse buildings, which were from the 1950s/60s.
And the first thing I came across was this very old hand painted pedestrian warning sign!

And then, I saw various brands of LED traffic lights being tested on a rack! The brands included Aldridge, Bob Panich, Swarco, Tyco & a few others!

There were two container bins full of old traffic lights!

A three aspect pedestrian signal, with LED modules but interestingly, no masks!

There were also piles of traffic lights old, new, broken & undamaged!

This shed also had heaps of traffic lights!

And I even managed to save that G+W Eagle pedestrian signal hiding in the red bin!

That's all for now! Walkley Heights depot, the best place to get old traffic lights (as long as you ask the workmen! :Poof: )

HOLY COW Ryan! that place is amazing! I really like the test rack idea, hey did they let you "explore" through the "bins" of old stuff outside? Glad you came away with something, as I am sure they were gald to have one less signal on inventory!

I just had a dig through. Next time, I'll get a 200mm single aspect light & turn it into a working desk ornament!

Nice stuff!

Interesting to see that they appear to be testing the AluStar signal heads there! It'd be interesting to see if a) they appeared on Australian roads, and b) if they'll be all-black or the standard grey body/black doors.
Was anything mentioned about the use of these in the future?

Are those lane control signals 15-inch ones? They look rather large!

Ryan, I must commend you on exhibiting extraordinary discipline and self-control, if we are truly to believe you visited such an incredible selection (and quantity!!) of castoff signals, and only came away with
a single solitary 2-section ped light...???

if me, I woulda probably had my truck so full of stuff so fast they wouldn't realize what'd hit 'em?!
