Interesting new ideas on signal standards & uses

Postby signal-in-the-box on Tue Aug 06, 2013 9:45 pm

While searching for something else, I found a website full of signal ideas, essentially changes/additions to the MUTCD and ways that signals are used.
There is so much in it, I just skimmed through all the pages. There is some neat stuff in there. Mostly weirdness... I love seeing these strange slightly different new ideas (its not like they are ever going to happen).
Note that this "home" page is an overview on proposed meanings of signal indications. It expands much more in "A Few Particulars" (section 3 on this page).

EDIT (unrelated):
Spoiler:
I recently took a trip from Bryce Canyon UT to Grand Canyon AZ to Las Vegas NV, also travelling the longest original stretch of Rt 66 (which is in AZ). If I can get stuff organized, I will post about my finds from that trip...

I've got a headache. :Phil:

We can barely get people to follow the signals at they are so in my opinion, changing everything to incorporate a dozen possible meanings is just inviting chaos. Besides, if self-driving cars become a reality in the next few decades, traffic signals themselves may be relegated to the history books entirely.

Never once in that page is 'TFGAP' defined.

Think it's something like "the Flashing Green Arrow Proposal". Not being investigated at all by traffic engineers. One person's idea only.

The automated vehicle issue was addressed at length at ITE...interesting to see how this issue progresses...

People can not drive now......

Someone wants to add more 5h1t to the mix..... :dizzy:
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Changes to the MUTCD have historically been very difficult, although who knows how the HAWK got in there.

Before you relegate anything to the history books, some independant device will still have to tell which "self-driving" car to stop and go even if virtual in nature? And besides won't the needs of motorcyclists, pedestrians and bicyclists have to be accomodated?
