Volunteers needed!

Postby EdT. on Mon Jul 02, 2007 9:55 am

Volunteers willing to pitch in and help build the next Wiki entries would be very much appreciated. I'd prefer to discuss it here before creating any entries on the wiki itself so as to nail down terminology and maintain a consistent structure.

Below is a listing of future entries, but I'm unsure as to which ones should be attempted first:

    * Acme
    * AGA
    * Crouse Hinds
    * Eagle
    * Econolite
    * Essco
    * General Electric
    * Harrington Seaberg
    * Horni
    * Marbelite
    * Ruleta
    * Signal Service Corp.
    * Tokheim
    * Wiley

Obviously there are many manufacturers missing from that list, but there's going to be a lot of work involved just sketching these out. The rest will come eventually (unless someone wants to adopt a manufacturer and run with it sooner than later).

I've gotten a start with Marbelite on the njsignals site. How can I help here?

Sir Marbelot, thanks for your offer, it's much appreciated! I'm going to start another thread in this Wiki forum with the framework I'd like to use.

I would say start with Crouse-Hinds Company signaling equipment. There is probably a greater amount of people with knowledge about this companies products than any of the other companies. I have a few of their first controllers and signals made.

Couldn't some of the companies be put under the same Wiki outline? Say for instance ESSCO, Harington-Seaberg, and Eagle Signal or American Gas Accumulator Company (AGA), Signal Service Corporation, and Marbelite. Some of these signal companies were purchase by or merged with other signal companies in their past. It could show a family tree of sorts. Just a suggestion.

CC, that's a good idea, but does have a downside. All this cumulative information on Crouse Hinds means that there's a lot of information on Crouse Hinds. :? IOW, not exactly a bite-sized project. I don't want to start with the biggest project, but rather work our way up to it. :ugeek:

This is not to say that should anyone feel like contributing to ANY data page, that they should refrain from doing so - quite the contrary. I would love to see a flood of signal data and history on Crouse Hinds and/or on any other manufacturer that anyone might have some info on. If the topic doesn't already exist here under 'Wiki Topics', then feel free to start a new one, but please follow the subject heading format of "<manufacturer> page".

I'm afraid I disagree on the consolidation point. I think it's important to keep the companies as separate as possible in order to avoid confusion and to avoid homogenization of any one multi-Mfr. product line. Obviously we'll point out, whenever possible, the similarities and outright 'use of the same molds' when they occur. And I do like the idea of the 'family tree' as a visualization tool.

I don't know much about the Ruleta, but since I am the proud owner of one, I'd be more than happy to take photos of whatever is needed and, in the process, learn more about it. There is a great thread on the old site (this one, too) with great information from Randy and Ed. Let me know if I can help.

I also have a 2-light single-face CH AD. Let me know if you need photos of that, too.

Peace.
