
The photographer took this picture in recent years (I believe 2011), and this was a forgotten gem that lingered for many years before D.O.T. finally found it. It is interesting to me, because this kind of street sign was also in use in Brooklyn in the 1950s. The only noticeable difference between both is the color scheme. Here, this one shares the same color scheme that was presumably adopted in later years when vinyl aluminum street signs first began to appear on the streets of Staten Island sometime after 1964 or so.
