TEECO 500 SIGNAL CONTROLLER

Postby Magnetboy on Sat Feb 23, 2013 9:03 pm

Jerry's thread got me inspired to look at the Teeco I just acquired recently. I haven't messed with it for more than a few minutes to install a power cord as of yet. I'm not sure if it works properly but I had power to it and the synchron motor was working the other night. Now it isn't. I'll have to check it for loose connections and basic stuff but I may just have to call on a few of you to assist me in doing some troubleshooting if I am not able to get her going. I'm not electronically inclined like Nick. :Wink2: I'll keep you posted.

FYI....Jerry, my door has the appearance of being altered near the key hole on the outside, but the inside is original and untouched from what I can see. The lock is on factory cast bosses inside the door which don't appear to have any modifications to them.

Where is this motor? On the flash timer? Mine doesn't have any motor except maybe in my flash timer, but my flash timer is different than yours.

My guess is that the controller should still cycle the lights normally even if the flash timer isn't working.

I am not too familiar with this signal controller, but what I like about it is that one could adjust the signal intervals through the use of knobs. That's pretty cool I have to admit.

It's kind of like (at least in my opinion) a hybrid (an electro-mechanical combined with basic features of a computerized signal controller).

I like the 'blank' "MAN / AUTO" switch. :)

There are 2 blank switches if you look closely!

THANKS for posting these pics MB!! :clapping:

How interesting to compare your controller to Jerry's! They're so similar but yet different in many little details -- I'd certainly guess yours is the "newer" of the two. Have you found any date markings anywhere on it? My Teeco e/m panel has a 1990 date inkstamped onto its disc flasher, and has a similar timeswitch and green nameplates.

I agree, BTW, that the controller should cycle the lights whether or not the timeswitch motor runs -- the timeswitch just serves to kick the panel into night-flash mode. (probably via a relay inside at the other end of those two blue wires hooked to the Y1 and R2 connections?) The physical on/off lever on the timeswitch should still switch it anyway.

I've never seen what's inside one of those (though I would love to...?) :beg: but by listening to Jerry's in his video, there are obviously a few relays in there somewhere, probably controlled by some rather simple electronics in addition to the 'run' and 'reset' switches -- it shouldn't be difficult to figure out!

Can't wait to hear (and see, I hope!) more as you get it up and running!

That reset switch doesn't do anything when you press it, except if you put my controller into and out of flash rather quickly, sometimes it stays in flash even though the switch is set back to ON. Pushing the reset switch at that time, resets the controller and it returns to normal operation. Otherwise, pushing the reset switch does nothing.

How many wires are going to the "Controller" and is that a 12 or 18 pin plug/connector?

Magnetboy wrote:Image

I know the 2 Wires are for the flashing out puts. I am just curious what thw 2 extra Wires are for.....

The reset switch may have to do if the 2 Lights are on together??

Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.
