I'm new here!

Hey everyone! My name is Les, and among many things, old traffic signals are a "thing" of mine. I don't currently have a "nice" one, but I've been cruising eBay for a nice Crouse-Hinds or Eagle. I'm just looking for a standard vertical Red/Yellow/Green (actually a search for "Mr. Rogers Traffic Light" brought me here!

I do have a plastic signal in my attic (with 8" plastic lenses), but it isn't much of a showpiece. Someone spray painted it black somewhere along the line, and I'm looking for a nice aluminum unit anyway. I used to have this really cool vintage "Walk" sign that I was given out of someone's storage unit years ago, but unfortunately the glass got broken, and I don't remember its fate after that -- I was young and we didn't have eBay, etc to find replacement lenses :(.

Anyway, that's my introduction. Good to be here!

Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

Hey, Les. Welcome to the forums.

It's nice that you're fond of the signals of yesteryear. With patience, I am sure that you could come across what you seek. Personally, I prefer Ebay, since almost everything is auctioned there on a daily basis. Although Craigslist is another good website. Your choice, though.

Thanks for the warm welcome, guys! I've been cruising eBay lately and there are some nice ones out there! It seems like it just comes down to finding a nice unit with reasonable shipping charges. I'm surprised by how many sellers there are who aren't willing to ship these! I know they're big and heavy -- I guess I'm used to buying stage lighting (some of which is equally big and heavy) where the sellers will ship anything. Of course, sometimes the packing leaves something to be desired.

I'm not too picky on brand names either after doing some more research. I'm liking the look of those older Econolites also. For me, as long as it has some character and is well made (aluminum body, glass lenses), I'm a happy camper.

I read here that his earlier signal was a CH Art Deco. I think I only saw that a few times (on YouTube). It seems like the lenses looked really different - like clear. Of course, it was also B&W so that probably makes things look different.

Was the later signal an Econolite? I saw one on eBay that looked really similar (same hinges and wingnut latch design). I don't know if I'm 'watching' it or anything -- it seems like it had some damage or was really expensive.

I wish I could find the episodes of where he replaces the bulb and the other episode where he loans it out to the traffic instructor. It seems that they have disappeared. I'd probably have to buy the season on Amazon to find it.

the second one He had is a Marbelite and at first glance they look the same as an Econolite. Hinges and the catch latch are almost the same
