New guy: Chandler, Az

This is the new member sandbox. Until you post a little something about yourself here, you don't get to play on the rest of the board. So tell us a little something about yourself and your signals.

Hello Jonah and WELCOME, from Arkansas!! :hello:
WOW, what a sweet GE!

(not to mention, an incredible "first light in your collection"!)

There are many here (beyond me) who will be able to help with info about it, and you're probably also in the right place to find a replacement for the busted lens, too!

Your pics make it look like the bottom of that poor thing is still mostly embedded in a chunk of concrete?!

what a horrible thing for somebody to have done to such a beautiful old light... :nono:

Can you tell if there might be a fancy cast "bottom" still buried in there?? Do you happen to know the story of how it ended up that way -- I bet I'm not the only one that's curious...?

Disclaimer: The folowing story is somewhat longwinded and purposfully vague on certian points.

I know a story allthough it is pretty foggy at certain points. I've been told that it was unlawfully aquired decades ago by a now deceased relative of my wife's and hidden in a basement in the north midwest. At some point, said relative got ansy and asked another relative to take it out of the immediate goegraphical area. At that point it lived in a garage until those relatives moved to AZ. Now this is wear I come in. I saw this thing, imbedded in concrete in their AZ backyard, for the first time about 12 years ago. Being the lover of od things and antiques that I am, I asked if I could buy/barter it from them and was met with a resounding NO. Fast forward 1.2 decades and I helped them load a Uhaul for their move out of state to be with thier new grandson. Guess what didn't fit on the Uhaul?!!

Did you chip all of the concrete off? There may be a slipfitter on the bottom?

If you post the information on the tag, That may hold a clue also.

But that is just a guess. :hello:

Those are pictures I took this morning. RThe concrete is still intact. I was trying to educate myself on this before renting a jack hammer. I also need an opinion on what to do with this I know that sometimes restorating can hurt vintage items is this true of this stop light?

Welcome to the club Jonah!

When you get ready to restore the light I might be able to help you find a green lens for it. I'll even help you find a home for it if you don't want to go through the hassle of restoring it.

You got a great start on you collection! :good:

Unlike other things....

The traffic light collection value is up to the owner, Not the outside world. That is why you never see them on "Pawn Stars", "American Pickers" and "American Restorations". You may get a few offers from people that want to buy it, Such as Easy......
If you are going to keep it for a long time, Then do with it how you want to look at it.

Old Timer restores EVERYTHING and he has them sitting in his house.

Other people leave them as found and just replace the missing/broken parts.

And yet others do a mix of both......

This cost me $200.00 to make.

Although I'm a GE nut, and I'd love to have the light, I have not, and will not make an offer on the light unless offers are asked for. I only offered to help when he decides to restore the signal.

Spoiler:
Plus I'm just a nickle, and dime guy that can't compete with the " big guns " around here.
