Hi ya'lls, I have a DMK-4 that I'd like to setup. It is non-NEMA, and I can't find a manual for it. I have a DMK-1 and DMK-2 manual, but these controllers physically look a lil' different from my DMK-4.

Does anyone have a DMK-4 manual? OR, does anyone know if the DMK-1 or DMK-2 manuals are similar enough to my DMK-4 were I can figure it out? Specifically, I am looking for pinouts.

The Crouse Hinds DMK controller was NEMA TS-1 compliant. It was a keyboard version of the DM series controllers in the mid to late 70s. I recall them being numbered differently than you referenced as 1 or 2 or 4 - the controllers were numbered DMK-200 for a two phase chassis; DMK-400 for a four phase chassis, and DMK-800 for an eight phase unit. The same manual should work for all series...

I just realized the other day that the A & B connector are in fact NEMA TS-1 pinout. This controller looks so strange I thought it wasn't NEMA yet. Anyways, supposedly it's programming is similar to a LC40, which I am familiar with.

I noticed that the DMK-4 looks quite different than the other DMK controllers. I'm not sure what the functional differences are.

You know, now that you mention it, I vaguely remember a variation of the controller being advertised - it used the DMK main module, but not the individual phase modules, so it was a much smaller chassis. It was similar in appearance to their solid state pretimed controller, the SP-40 (Susan's Pet)...

I think it was almost immediately replaced by the LC series controllers. This was about the same time as the CH to TCT transition in the early 80s... Can you post a photo?

I'll post a pic soon. You are right, it is smaller than the DMK-1/DMK-2 variants. The DMK-1/2 manual I have seems to work with this DMK-4. It does look like a SP-40, and certain SP-40 parts are interchangeable with it. Mine has the overlap module and and a bunch of extra modules, whereas the SP-40 had blanks.

I really like the LED stuff. I wonder if the LED can be disabled? I know the NEMA TS-1 connections incorporate a "illumination control" circuit. I'll have to try it out.

Some of the LED units can be turned off, though I don't recall if the CH was one of them. The NEMA standards were developed just about the same time LEDs started being used as indicators, and the grain-of-wheat bulbs in the old controllers had a limited life span. The Indicator Control input was designed to be hooked to a door switch on the cabinet, like a refrigerator light.
