Electrical Question

Postby steven1981 on Mon Apr 01, 2013 7:11 pm

Forgive me if it may sound rather silly, but is it okay to cap off several live wires for a short period of time? At the moment, they're wired to one of my signal controllers; however, they're not wired to an actual signal (they will be soon).

Naturally, I wouldn't leave them exposed when everything is live, so I'd think that a wire nut for each wire (including neutral) is adequate. Is this safe? I just want to be sure.

Wire nuts would be fine. If you're paranoid use wirenuts and tape the bottoms to the wire.

Sounds good to me, as long as all the "live" wires have a wire cap/nut on them, there is no chance of someone getting that unexpected shock.

Make sure you get the insulated wire nuts. There are some cheap Chinese knockoffs out there that look like they're insulated, but they're actually conducting...
