Hi Folks,

Been busy this afternoon straightening the panels on the RR Crossing sign.
Here they are and they no longer look like they were pulled up out of the dirt with a tractor. Much better than in earlier photos posted.

Depending on what else may happen tomorrow, will start wire wheeling paint off and then blast the hard to get to spots. Otherwise waiting on our marbles.....

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

Started fabricating the casings for the cat's eye reflectors.

There are about 190 casing I cut from 3/4 x .29 inch brass tubing. Each are 3/4 inch long.

Here are a few casings that have been pressed out and checked to see if the will fit in the panel.

Will need 170 assemblies for the cross bucks.

Cheers!

Did you use a regular flaring tool or some sort of die to make those casings? You never stop amazing me!

No, I don't want your free toolbar.

Hi Vaughn,

I had to make a jig with flat bar and pipe to hold the casing. Used two 1/4 inch thick flat bars with 3/4 inch holes to keep the sides from bowing out and a modified grommet tool to swage the end of the casing.

Will post a complete description with photos of how we make our cat's eye reflectors when we have completed this project.

Cheers!

Since Ed is going to archive these forums for reference, I need to show all that is going into this project.

Had forgotten to show a couple of photos of the paint stripped off the cross bucks with new coat of primer paint.

This photo shows after all the panels were wire wheeled and blasted and treated with muriatic acid, cleaned and now covered with phosphoric acid.

After three days, wiped all the panels with acetone in preparation to primer paint.

Hiya Folks,

Been doing a little to the RR cross bucks today. Lightly sanded the primer, cleaned off all the dust and painted the inside of all the panels with 4 coats appliance white paint.

Will have to wait a day or so before we can paint the white on the outside of the back panels and about 4 days before we can paint the black appliance paint on the faces of the cross bucks.

Cheers!

Hi Folks,

Was doing a little playing around with fabricating the marble reflectors last night. This is the latest of the prototypes.

This photo shows the reflector sitting on the gate rail.

Still have to tweak this design before making 170 of these reflectors.

Cheers!
