Why so tall?

Any ideas what the point of an 8" signal would be on such a tall pole? There are no other poles like this anywhere in the area (or anywhere that I've seen, ever!)

This is along the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia if anyone local might know a reason.

"Now look up, look wayyyyyyy up, and I'll call Rusty!"

(Only the Canadians on here will probably understand this one) :this:
A cop pulled me over and said, "Papers..." So I replied, "Scissors! I win!" and drove off.

Piggybacking off this thread, there is a signal near me that is on a tall post. It is a twelve inch left turn signal.
It is on the median, but is at the height of the mast. Why? There is nothing blocking it, and it is not over a hill. It is a recent install.

Here in Little Rock, there are a handful of lights mounted similarly "too high". One I'm thinking of is actually mounted above the horizontal arm on the mastarm pole, which extends several extra feet upwards for it. They are installed as 'extra' heads beyond the normal full compliment (at normal heights), where the road approaching the intersection is on a hill or curve (or both), and thus serve to help motorists be better aware of the state of the intersection as they reach it. :good:

EDIT, to add GoogleMap image. (if I'm doing it right) Notice the far right-hand signal above the mastarm, which is facing the "wrong" direction than the others.

I took this pic of a signal mounted rather high up on the side of a pole in NJ in 2004 ('twas replaced a few years later.. ). I have seen a few like this, but not many.

That's a sight distance issue due to the hill

Being that I grew up in the Detroit area and could get Canadian TV, I remember this, but I forget the name of the show. It was for kids. Something to do with a giant.
