Brass CH "D" Lense Clips

Postby khardy on Mon Jun 03, 2013 4:23 pm

Hi Folks,

While cleaning parts for the five CHs we are redoing, noticed some of the lense clips are brass. I mentioned this in our thread about CH Disassembly/Assembly Line - en Masse and figure I would bring this up separately hoping for an answer.

Brass clips are on the left.

Steel clip on left is identical to the brass clip on right.

Is there a time frame when the brass clips were used? Pre-WWII?

The brass clips came from doors that were on the type "D" lights. Have noticed some similar clips that came from a "DT" had rounded corners.

Cheers!

Hi Old-timer,

The CH type "D" 4-way we restored earlier this year did not have any of the brass lense clips. Considering the porthole models came before the type "D's" and the "D's" were first produced I think in 1936 would lead me to believe some of these lights we have predate WWII.

During WWII and the Korean Confict, brass was used extensively along with copper for military applications. These two metals became somewhat scarce for many civilian products.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

Cheers!

That sounds logical...all my Type-Ds have brass clips and the DTs have steel.
