Hey Guys,

so I was driving down to the University of Toronto last night and I came across a funny looking signal. I didn't have my camera with me, otherwise there would have been a pic. The signal was a 4 section 12", with a plumbizer between the amber and red sections. But, it has snapped off between the mast arm and the amber section. So the Poly backplate was holding up the lower 3 sections and swinging in the wind.

However, this photo was taken while they were working on the signals and thus the head in question is not there yet. If you click the link and look at the photo, this head is mounted right next to the PED pole. Next time I am down on Morningside I will try and grab a photo and maybe a video.

This is the first time I've ever seen a signal break on the arm like this. Anyone else seen anything like this?

Hmm, well Phil had those pics of the signals whose hangers broke, one was hanging by the wires the other's hanger was so corroded it still held the signal up, so anything's possible. I want to know how long the backplate will hold it if the wind keeps blowing, since they can barely hold themselves up it seems.

This one has been like this for at least a month. (I kept forgetting to take my camera :doh:

)

It has the Fortran PolyFlex backboard on it and they are pretty thick and durable, so I think it will hold for quite a while. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised to drive down there and find it on the road one day.

I take it that the amber signal section broke? I can see how this can happen with a four section poly with a plumbizer, especially with wind loading. The amber section had to support the two sections below it, as well as the stress from the wind.

From where I was sitting at the light I couldn't see the back of the signal, but my guess is the top broke off of it.
