(Google Maps Link) CH Art-deco signals at railroad crossings

Postby freebrickproductions on Thu Aug 22, 2013 6:10 pm

The first crossing is located on North Carbon Street, Marion, Illinois, and it has a pair of very old crossing signals (the backgrounds on the lights need re-painting) and on one of the cantilevers, there is a small set of traffic light sections being used as indicators to let the engineers know that the signals are functioning. Four of the sections appear to be Eagle Flat-back sections while the other two are Crouse-hinds Art-deco sections.

The second crossing is located at the intersection of Main Street and McLaren Street, in Marion, Illinois,. I was looking around at the crossing when Inoticed a pair of art-deco sections mounted on one of the cantilever signals there. They probably serve the same purpose as the flat-back and art-deco sections at the first crossing.

I can post screen shots for those of you who don't like to go to Google Maps.
I am a railfan, signalfan, and I'm interested in tornado sirens. I hope to learn new things about traffic lights because I'm interested in them and don't know much about them.

Why can't all of Google maps have pictures that you can actually see what you are looking at? Personally, I don't mind google map pics when the quality is good.

They're quite rare these days, aren't they? I know Western Cullen Hayes still make them. I'm not sure about any other companies.
