What is missing on this signal?

Postby dwarrenk on Mon Apr 01, 2013 5:23 pm

I just purchased this Eagle traffic signal. I am new to collecting.... it seems to have a missing part at the bottom, what is missing, & where can I get the missing item? What was this signal used for?

The guy I purchased it from said it came from downtown Memphis 30-40 years ago. He said he was downtown and a contractor was removing signals using a backhoe... destroying them. He asked if he would remove one and sell it to him, which he did (for $150.00 for the labor to remove it... not using the backhoe)

That's your basic sign beacon. It would be typically mounted on a pole above a warning sign of some sort. The two beacons would flash wig/wag and the two lamps at the bottom would light up the sign. The bottom is broken (looks a lot like the top piece) and the down light cover is missing (pretty normal). I tried to find a photo of one in action but I'm on vacation this week and don't have all my stuff with me.

And welcome to the forum. Is this your first traffic signal?

This is my 3rd signal. I posted some of my other signals (& projects) on Flickr...

The Crouse-Hinds HL-6167 Type D (Yellow) was my first signal. The Econolite E-951 (dark Green) was my second and the Eagle (warning light) is my third. I restored the Econolite and installed a sequencer. I installed sequencer in the CH, but have not yet repainted it. (the original color of the Econolite & CH was green) I bought all three locally (Memphis, TN). (I think I got the models right on the Econolite & CH). I would like to buy the missing part on the Eagle light.... but don't even know what it looks like.

The yellow CH signal looks like an awesome restore opportunity, your Eagle looks like it needs a new bottom section with the down light, (hard to find) good luck!!!

Edit: looks like you just need a new signal section, the down light door looks intact.
