In Germany. This is an excellent example of alternative use of a pedestrian signal:

Please pardon me if this is a duplicate post.

That is a great idea. Sad to say it would not work in the U.S..

You can not get people to push the button or wait until it their turn. This is true in New York, I do not know what the laws are in other states.

I do like that ALL the conduit for the wiring is hidden in the wall!
Well what do you know. If I put my name here, I do not have to sign it everytime.

But it doesn't look like there's a signal head facing in the opposing direction. Without that, this makes no sense.

Edit:
(Opps. I can see the opposing face in the distance in the first photo.)

Haha! Yea, I thought it was a Signalbau Huber! Ah so it must be Deutsch! so... Sorry for that confusion.

I thought Germans are quite good at abiding rules, right? Similarly, in Japan, you can find very few people who jaywalk while the red signal is on...

Sorry, I have never been to Germany.

When I was living in Japan (somewhere beween Chiba/Tokyo) there weren't a lot of people jaywalking. It would look arkward and embarassing if you jaywalk and everyone stands on the curb!

US... Depends on where you are :-]

It might work here, if the lights changed without a delay when the button is pressed. The red ped signal here holds no legal meaning, however the red signal for peds at Level Crossing (All be it rare) is legal.

Interesting idea. I doubt that would work in Australia either. People would just walk and only realise the problem when they couldn't get past the person coming the other way.

By the way. I notice the sign above the push-button actually reads TRAFFIC LIGHT - SEMAFOR.

There is no such word as "Lense".
