Who says Durasigs don't clean up nicely?

Postby Texas_Signal_Fan on Fri May 29, 2009 8:03 pm

Hey all, I bought this Durasig from Matt under the PennDOT sale as some may remember. Some of you may even recall me mentioning that I was repainting it SBY. Yes, I actually repainted a Poly. All I really did was clean the signal up with soap and water, then repainted it directly withsome ACE SBY, and the results are nice. It will be LED, and I have a set of 12" Incandescent Look Dialights that will be put in it. As for the visors, the doors are 2nd Gen doors that use the visors that plug in and lock with the lens tabs, and the visors that came with the signal are not original. The doors were retrofitted with self-tapping screws, however, the green visor was an inch shorter, so I contacted Chapel Hill who is teamed with Traffic Parts, and bought a set of brand new gray Durasig visors. I had to cut the piece that makes them continuous against the lens door out so they would fit, and then painted them SBY. The results are great... Here are pix...

Enjoy, and let me know what you guys and gals think...

Dee-
It really was less work than say an aluminum sig that has bad paint on it. When I get a sig with good paint on it, I sand it smooth, and primer over it. With bad paint, I strip it. With the Durasig, I just washed it off. That was it for surface prep work. Painting was done just like any other signal, except that the first coat was light to get good adhesion, then the next coats were heavier to get good color. With all the parts it was pretty easy...
