(Swarco) Futurit 12" Signal of Austria

Postby LarryC39 on Sat Oct 09, 2010 10:12 pm

Here is a rare signal of the Futurit line. This signal uses 12" aspects a rare find in the old world. Somehow it ended up in Ohio U.S.A.

This signal has a sleek, modern design resembling something out of the 1980's or a Burger King sign.

Each section is a plastic cast piece. The front and back doors are clear plastic held on by tiny hinges, a single tab, and sheet metal screws. These often break.

Inside the body, a plastic reflector holder is inserted and a sheet metal reflector snaps into place. Also, between each signal section, two mounting legs extend and snap together, these also serve as wiring channels.

The front door is painted but a circle is left open to allow for seeing the lens. Inside the door a lens holder is mounted. This holder holds the lens near the door and behind that a thin aluminum honeycomb. This is to direct the light and avoid the need for visors. The lens is a 12" version of the original Holophane pattern. The center has been modified, like a pool lamp, with a clear section that contains some round dots.

No, if I didn't make it clear in the OP, the door accepts no visor, and the lens is internally baffled to try and directionalize it.

Very interesting traffic signal. It somewhat resembles a 3M traffic signal.

Its very likely that this was aimed at the French market, and resembles some of their signals.

The sun phantom is prevented through the honeycomb louvre on the inside of the lens and the spiderweb/holophane lens.
