All I found was bagged sand for concrete use, and nothing designated to be used for sand blasting. I also called Lowe's and they said that they don't have anything to be used for that purpose either.

I thought someone on the forums said that blasting media is available at the home centers. Where do you buy blasting media??

Thanks, :hello:

I get mine from a local bagging/aggregates place. But I use coal slag. Usually farm stores carry it.

As for a cheap(er) cabinet, check out TP tools and see what they have of USA cabinets/guns.

On occasion, I will see sacks of "Black Beauty" (I think that is the name) at Home Depot or Lowe's. This is black sand of about 60 grit. Looks like volcanic sand from Alaska.

The other places mentioned such as Northern Tool and Harbor Freight have various grits. Have found Northern Tool is less expensive per sack.

Cheers!

Personally, I don't like to use anything but glass bead for blasting aluminum. The more aggressive media tends to warp the metal and leaves a surface that's too rough.
I'm so old I remember when the word "mother" only had one meaning!!!

None of the home centers in my area have any type of blasting media, and me being me, just had to try out my little blasting gun. I purchased some Quikrete all purpose sand, It works, but very slowly. There has to be a better media out there than plain sand.

I'll try Tractor Supply for the Black Diamond media mentioned earlier, I just have a 25 gallon compressor that run's all the time while using the gun. A more aggressive media may work better with my equipment.
